6 Month Crafty Goals Update (2019)

Welcome to my 6 month crafty goals update! For the last two years, I kept track of all my crafty goals as I thought it would be fun to see what progress I would make with each goal. You can check out my 2018 results and 2017 results here. The most surprising part was seeing how much yarn I used up in one year. I was amazed at how much yarn I went through!

For this year, I wanted to include some of the same crafty goals as last year, but also include some new crafty goals for 2019. There are certain things I want to work on in order to expand my little crochet business even more. These goals are in no particular order. Without further ado, here is my 6 month crafty goals update!

6 Month Crafty Goals #1: Make More YouTube Videos

I started my channel last year with the support and encouragement from my husband, Tony. I started making simple beginner crochet tutorials as well as some patterns I’ve created. At one point, I was in a groove making videos and uploading them to YouTube. I kept getting more and more subscribers and it boosted my self-esteem a little bit. However, I became a little discouraged by some comments, which slowed my progress.

PROGRESS: I’ve made a few more videos using a different camera. This has improved my video quality immensely and has encouraged me to keep making more videos. I’m trying to make one video a week if I have the time to do so. I’ve also received more positive comments since switching over to the new camera. I still need work in this area, mostly with being more consistent.

6 Month Crafty Goals #2: Learn How to Sew

Last year I made it a goal to try and learn how to sew. I really want to learn how to make own project bags among other things. However, I didn’t get around to accomplishing this goal last year.

PROGRESS: I haven’t been able to learn how to sew just yet this year as other things have been going on. However, I’m hoping the next 6 months slow down a little to where I’m able to have my friend show me how to sew as I teach her how to crochet. This is still something I’m very interested in, so I’m really hoping I can accomplish this soon.

6 Month Crafty Goals #3: Work Through My Yarn Stash

One of my goals for the last few years was to work through my yarn stash. After I finish projects, I have some yarn leftover that I didn’t know what to do with. Some of my yarn has been sitting on my shelf for a while, so I wanted to finally get around to using it.

I want to continue using up my leftover yarn and work from my stash as often as I can. The leftover yarn would be perfect to make different things for charity or smaller items for craft fairs. It’s about time I show all my yarn some love and turn them into some amazing projects.

PROGRESS: I’ve been successful in using up as much of my yarn as possible. I’ve created lots of blankets as well as towel toppers for both my Etsy Shop and a spring craft fair I attended. I have another craft fair (or two) coming up in the fall, so I’m working towards making more items for that as well.

As far as how much yarn I’ve used up, I’ve been able to use up 82 skeins, which is approximately 25,715 yards. WOW!

6 Month Crafty Goals #4: Design More Crochet Patterns

Last year I made it a goal to design 10 of my own patterns. I succeeded with that goal by designing 17 patterns, and had a lot of fun in doing so. I enjoyed coming up with different color combinations and patterns and seeing the end result. Because of my enjoyment, I plan to continue designing more of my own patterns.

For this year, I would like to design at least 15 patterns. There are so many different stitches out there that I would like to incorporate them in different patterns. I can’t wait to see what I come up with!

PROGRESS: I’ve slacked on this a little bit this year, but so far I’ve designed 4 out of 15 crochet patterns. The reason for this is because my life has been a little chaotic the past couple of months and I haven’t had much time to sit down and design anything. I’m hoping that things will slow down and I can continue to produce more crochet patterns for you all.

Crafty Goals #5: Create More and Don’t Worry About What to do with it Afterwards

One of the things I’ve always struggled with was not creating things or working on patterns because I wasn’t sure what to do with it afterwards. A lot of the patterns I currently work on are patterns to restock my Etsy Shop or things I know could sell well at craft fairs. At times, I find myself staying away from making items (even the ones I LOVE) because I feel like it would be a waste to make the item and not know what to do with it afterwards.

This year, I would like to try and break that way of thinking and crochet all the things! If I find a purpose for them later, great! If not, I know I’ll still be able to share my pattern reviews with everyone and learn something new. I, personally, may not need another blanket, but I can always give it to a friend, list it on Etsy, or donate to charity.

PROGRESS: I’ve been successful in creating more and not worrying about what I do with an item after it’s completed. I’ve been on a shell blanket kick lately, so I’ve been using up some yarn and restocking my Etsy Shop with these beautiful blankets. I’m having a lot of fun making these items and not holding back on making a pattern because I’m unsure what to do with the finished product. There are still a few different patterns I would like to try this year, so I can’t wait to get started on those!

Crafty Goals #6: Pattern Reviews

As you know, there are TONS of crochet patterns out there! I have a ton of patterns printed out, saved on Pinterest, and on my Ravelry page. I’m probably never going to get to all of them, especially as more and more patterns are released. However, I think it would be fun to try out different patterns to increase my crochet skills and learn a new stitch. Last year I’ve gotten rid of some pattern I know I’ll never make, so that helped make a tiny dent in my pattern hoarding.

PROGRESS: I’ve been successful in reviewing a few different patterns this year. I know there are more that I want to try out, so I’m looking forward to that. This might be a slow progress as there are so many different patterns out there I want to try out.

So far, I’ve reviewed the following patterns:

If there are any patterns you recommend that I try, leave me a comment below and let me know.
