Easy Winter Scarf

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the Easy Winter Scarf. I wanted to make something fun for the winter season, especially with those chilly days ahead. The Easy Winter Scarf is a beginner-friendly pattern as it’s a one-row repeat pattern. You can also add some fun tassels to your scarf.

For the Easy Winter Scarf, I used #4 worsted weight yarn in a beautiful blue color. I used Lion Brand Heartland Yarn, however, you can use any yarn you’d like. I also used a size  J-10 (6.0 mm) crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Materials:

  • (2) skeins of Lion Brand Heartland Yarn in Congaree
  • J-10 (6.0mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Size:

5.5 inches wide x 71 inches long (with tassels)

Notes:

  • To change the width of this scarf, you will chain an even number of chains.
  • You can make your scarf with or without fringe. The length of your fringe depends on your personal preference.

Special Stitch:

  • V-Stitch: In this pattern, a V-st is (SC, CH 1, DC) in the same stitch/space (this is commonly referred to as the Wattle Stitch but will be called a V-st throughout this pattern).

If you would like to purchase an ad-free version of this pattern, you can do so here.

Row 1: In the 2nd CH from the hook, make a SC. SC in each remaining CH across. CH 1 and turn.

Row 2: In the first stitch, make a V-ST (SC, CH 1, DC) in the same stitch, *skip the next stitch, V-ST in the next stitch. *Repeat from * across. Your final stitch is a V-ST in the last stitch. CH 1 and turn. (9 V-ST made).

Row 3: Make a V-ST into each CH-1 space across.

Rows 4-up: Repeat Row 3 until your scarf measures approx. 66″ long or your desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Tassels/Fringe

Each tassel is 6 strands and measures about 12″ long. You will need a total of 60 strands for 10 tassels (5 for each side of your scarf).

How to Attach the Tassels

A) Insert your hook from the back of the scarf to the front. Take the strands of yarn, fold them in half and place them on your hook.

B) With your hook, pull the folded ends through the end of the scarf (which creates a loop).

C) Pull the ends through the loop.

D) Pull tight to make a knot.

Once all tassels are complete, trim your tassels, so they’re the same length. I cut mine to be 3″, but it’s up to you on how long you want your tassels to be.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since. Feel free to email me at amandacrochets@yahoo.com with any questions.
