Welcome to Part 3 of my hooded blanket CAL! You can check out Part 1 and Part 2 here just in case you missed it. This final portion of my hooded blanket CAL will be making the hood and sewing all the pieces together. Once you complete this, you will have a wonderful dog hooded blanket!
For this section, you will need white yarn (I’m using Red Heart with Love), a J-10 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour), a tapestry needle, some stitch markers, and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!
HOOD-Magic Ring or chain 4 and join to form a ring
Row 1: Chain 3 and make 8 dc into the ring. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 2: Make 2 dc into the 1st stitch, then 1 dc into the next 3 stitches. Next, make 5 dc into the next stitch (corner stitch). Make 1 dc into the next 3 stitches and 2 dc into the last stitch. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 3: Make 2 dc into 1st stitch, 1 dc to corner stitch. Next, make 5 dc in corner and 1 dc to the end of the row. Make 2 dc into the final stitch. Chain 3 and turn.
Repeat row 3 until your hood is as big as you would like it to be. I kept going until my hood triangle was about 22 inches.
When you get to the end of your final row, chain 1 and sc across the bottom/unfinished edge of the triangle. Do not fasten off.
ATTACH HOOD TO BLANKET-Lay your hood triangle on your blanket. Line up the top corner of the hood triangle with one of the corners of your blanket. Use some stitch markers to keep your hood in place.
Starting on one side, sc along the edge of the hood/blanket to join the two together. Continue this all the way to the other side. Fasten off and weave in your ends. Flip the hood so the seam is on the inside of the blanket.
SEWING-
Spots-I sewed the spots on randomly. You can chose to sew them on wherever you would like as this portion is completely up to you. I used the whip stitch to sew the spots on.
Facial Features-Using the whip stitch method, sew the tongue on first. Next, sew the cheeks on making sure to have them overlap the tongue slightly. Line up the nose and sew it on making sure to overlap the cheeks a little. Finally, sew on the eyes. I tried to line these up with the middle of the cheeks.
Sew each of the ears on either side of the hood. Weave in all your ends.
