How to Make the Half Double Crochet V-Stitch

Hey everyone! In today’s Crochet 101 lesson, I’m going to teach you how to make the half double crochet v-stitch. This is a similar stitch to the double crochet v-stitch as well as the spider stitch I have shown in previous Crochet 101 tutorials. However, the half double crochet v-stitch uses a slightly taller stitch than the spider stitch, which results in a less dense pattern that’s more clearly defined. This is a quick stitch as the height of the half double crochets makes it easier to work into the chain spaces.

For today’s tutorial, you will need worsted weight yarn (I’m using Red Heart Super Saver) and a size I-9 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). The half double crochet v-stitch looks great in a solid color, but feel free to change colors for a more interesting look. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!

To begin, you will need a multiple of 2 stitches. For the purposes of this tutorial, I am making 22 chains.

ROW 1: [half double crochet, chain 1, half double crochet] in the 4th chain from hook.

*Skip next chain, [half double crochet, chain 1, half double crochet] in next stitch. Repeat from * until the last 2 chains. Skip next chain and make 1 half double crochet in final chain. Chain 2 and turn.

ROW 2: *[half double crochet, chain 1, half double crochet] into the first chain-1 space from the previous row.

Repeat from * to last v-stitch and make 1 half double crochet in the turning chain. Chain 2 and turn.

That’s how to make the half double crochet v-stitch! Repeat row 2 over and over again to practice. You are basically making your v-stitches on top of the one from the previous row. Use this stitch to complete a beautiful crochet project.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since. Feel free to email me at amandacrochets@yahoo.com with any questions.
