How to Make the V-Stitch

Hey everyone! In today’s Crochet 101 lesson, I’m going to teach you how to make the V-stitch. This is a beautiful lacy stitch using the double crochet stitch. The V-stitch is another one of those stitches that require little thinking once you get into a rhythm. You are basically working into the V-stitch from the previous row, which results in the stitches being stacked on top of one another.

For today’s tutorial, you will need worsted weight yarn (I’m using Red Heart Super Saver]) and a size I-9 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). I recommend using a solid color in order to see the stitch definition more clearly. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!

To begin, you want to make a multiple of 2 stitches plus 2 more for the foundation chain. This means you will count 2+2+2+2 until you reach your desired length. Then you will add two more stitches after that for the foundation chain. For the purposes of this tutorial, I am chaining 32 (30+2).

Next, make 2 double crochets into the 4th chain from the hook.

*Skip the next chain, and make 2 double crochets into the next chain. Repeat from * until you reach the last two chains. Skip 1 chain and make 1 double crochet into the final chain. Chain 3 and turn.

Next, make 2 double crochets in between the 2 double crochets from the previous row. Repeat this step until you reach the end of the row. Make 1 double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

That’s how to make the V-stitch! Repeat that last row over and over again to practice. This is one of my favorite stitches, and I’m positive you will love it, too! If you’re interested in making a pattern, I have a free baby blanket pattern using this stitch.

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial on how to make the V-stitch. If you have any questions about today’s tutorial, please leave a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
