Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Merry and Bright Christmas Blanket. This Christmas blanket is made using the granny stitch, but worked on a diagonal instead of back and forth. With the upcoming holiday season, you can make this blanket to include with your holiday décor.
For the Merry and Bright Christmas Blanket, I used Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted. However, you can use whatever worsted weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!
Merry and Bright Christmas Blanket
Materials:
- (3) skeins each of Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted Yarn in Really Red, Christmas Green, Clover, and Snow White
- Note: This yarn was part of the Annie’s Crochet Kit Club, so some of the colors may have different names or are unavailable. The skeins used in this pattern are slightly smaller (153yds) than the regular skeins (180yds)
- Alternative Colors: Kiwi and Green Apple
- I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Size:
40×40
Notes:
- Corner to corner crochet (C2C) is a technique that works just as it sounds–you crochet little “boxes” at a diagonal, increasing each row by one box until your project is tall and wide enough, at which point you start decreasing each row.
- This yarn was part of the Annie’s Crochet Kit Club, so some of the colors may be unavailable. Some green color alternatives would be Kiwi and Green Apple.
- I made 3 rows of each color for the entire blanket. At the end, you may have 2 rows of your final color.
Special Stitch:
- Extended Double Crochet (EXT DC): Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch or space and pull yarn through (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through one loop (3 loops on hook), (yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice.
- Block: 4 DC in indicated stitch or space.

CH 4, join with a SL ST in 4th CH from hook to form a ring. (You can also make a magic ring and CH 4)
ROW 1: CH 4 (counts as [DC, CH-1] throughout), into the ring (Block, EXT DC), turn – 1 Block, 2 edge stitches.
ROW 2: CH 4, Block into space between the EXT DC and Block of previous row, (Block, EXT DC) into beginning CH-4 sp, turn – 2 Blocks, 2 edge stitches
Row 3: CH 4, Block into space between the EXT DC and Block of previous row, Block into space between next 2 Blocks, (Block, EXT DC) in beginning CH-4 space, turn – 3 Blocks, 2 edge stitches.
Row 4: Ch 4, Block into space between the EXT DC and Block of previous row, Block in space between each Block across, (Block, EXT DC) into beginning CH-4 space, turn – 4 Blocks, 2 edge stitches.
Rows 5-51: Rep Row 4 – 51 Blocks, 2 edge stitches.
Row 52: CH 4, Block into space between each Block across, EXT DC into beginning CH-4 space, turn – 50 Blocks, 2 edge stitches.
Rows 53-up: Repeat Row 52 until you have 1 Block left – 1 Block, 2 edge stitches.
Final Row: CH 4, EXT DC into beginning CH-4 space. Fasten off. Weave in all ends before moving onto the border.
Border:
Join Snow White with a SL ST in any space.
Round 1: CH 2, 4 HDC in same space, *4 HDC around the post of each stitch along the side edges, (3 HDC, CH 2, 3 HDC) in each corner space. Join with SL ST to beginning. Fasten off Snow White and weave in ends.
Round 2: With Really Red, SC around entire blanket. In corners, make (SC, CH 1, SC). SL ST to beginning SC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
