I don’t know about you, but I enjoy making crochet shell blankets a whole lot. I love the texture it creates, and I love picking out different colors for them. That’s why I decided to share my newest pattern with you, my Ocean Waves Baby Blanket.

This is an advanced beginner-friendly pattern. You will need to know the basics of crochet in order to make this pattern. It might even help to make up a little swatch first before completing a full blanket. Check out my tutorials of the different stitches needed for this blanket:

  • Chain
  • Single Crochet
  • Half Double Crochet
  • Double Crochet
  • Double Crochet Increase

The Ocean Waves Baby Blanket can be made in a variety of different colors or even a solid color as shown in this pattern. The possibilities are endless as you can create a beautiful blanket simply by changing the colors up.

Let’s continue onto the pattern!

OCEAN WAVES BABY BLANKET

Ocean Waves Baby Blanket

MATERIALS:

  • I-9 Hook (I’m using Clover Amour)
  • (4) skeins of Deborah Norville Everday Baby (I used the color turquoise, but you can use any acrylic yarn for a total of 1,232 yards)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

FINISHED SIZE:

25×38

NOTE:

  • Blanket is worked in a multiple of 6+1. This mean you will make a chain of a multiple of 6. Once satisfied with your width, you will add 1 more chain to the very end.

 OCEAN WAVES BABY BLANKET PATTERN:

Chain 103

Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st, skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st. Repeat from * until there are 3 sts remaining, skip 2 sts, sc in last st, turn.

Rows 2-90: Ch 3, 2 dc in the first st (sc from previous row), *skip 2 sts, sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5 dc into the next st. Repeat from * across, sc in the top of the turning chain, turn.

To even out the top row of your blanket: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *hdc in the first dc of the 5 dc cluster, sc into each of the next 3 dc, hdc into the last dc of the cluster, dc into the sc. Repeat from * across to the end of your row. This should straighten out the top of your blanket. Fasten off.

Border:

Row 1: Begin in any corner st with a ch 1. Make a sc in each st around, making 3 scs in each corner space. Sl st to beginning and fasten off. (Note: If you are using the same color for the mini shell border, go to step 2 of border)

Row 2: Ch 2 in any corner (does not count as a st), 4 hdc in first st, *skip next st, sc in next st, skip next st, 4 hdc in next st. Repeat from * around entire blanket, sl st into the beginning shell. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since. Feel free to email me at amandacrochets@yahoo.com with any questions.
