Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing the Red Buffalo Check Blanket pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts. I’ve been a HUGE fan of theirs lately, so I thought I would share my thoughts on one of their patterns.

RED BUFFALO CHECK BLANKET

RED BUFFALO CHECK BLANKET OVERVIEW

When I first saw this red buffalo check blanket pattern, I immediately fell in love with it. I thought it was so pretty and was perfect for the holiday season. I went out to grab some yarn (I used Red Heart with Love in Black, Merlot, and Holly Berry) and quickly got to work.

I’ve never made a gingham style blanket before, so I thought I would give it a try with this blanket. You can find the free pattern on their website.

Tiffany of Daisy Farm Crafts has tons of gingham blankets of various colors on her website. I highly recommend giving this style of blanket a try. She even has a whole Q&A section on the gingham blanket design!

RED BUFFALO CHECK BLANKET REVIEW

When I first started this blanket, I had to remember to count my stitches as you change colors often. One of the most helpful tips when changing colors was to keep one color to the front and the other color to the back. This helped immensely as my yarn didn’t tangle up at all.

Another thing to remember is to pull your yarn taut after each color. This will help to “hide” the yarn a little instead of it showing through in each color. Because this is a gingham blanket, you will be carrying your yarn throughout the entire blanket (also known as tapestry crochet).

When I first started working on my blanket, my tension was tight as I was getting used to the new design. Once I got the hang of it, my tension evened out again. I didn’t notice this too much with the end result though.

The border was also something new that I haven’t done before. I really love the way it turned out and plan to add it to other blankets I make in the future. I’m a sucker for a good ribbed border.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Overall, I really enjoyed making this red buffalo check blanket. I thought the pattern was well-written, and a video tutorial is included as well. I plan on making more gingham blankets as they’re a lot of fun now that I understand the concept of how it’s created.

The only thing I would change would be my hook size. I think I would go up a size or two in order for my tension to be more even. Or I would use a lighter weight yarn instead of a worsted weight yarn.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the red buffalo check blanket made my Daisy Farm Crafts. Again I highly recommend their website and all the beautiful patterns they’ve created.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since.
