Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket. I have a bunch of the new Caron Cake Yarns in my stash, so I thought I would make another blanket pattern using this yarn. I absolutely LOVE the Baby Cake yarn as it’s super soft, and there are a lot of pretty colors available.

The Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket is made using worsted weight yarn in self-striping colors. However, you can use any yarn to make this blanket. You can even pair some solid colors in rainbow colors to get your desired look.

I also finished this blanket using a shell border, which I thought looked adorable on this blanket. The Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket is a quick and easy beginner pattern that beginners can crochet.

If you end up making this blanket, please share your finished product by tagging me on Instagram using the hashtag #amandacrochets. I’d love to see what other colors you come up with for inspiration!

For the Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket, I used Caron Baby Cakes in the color Retro. However, you can use whatever worsted weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Materials:

  • (3) skeins of Caron Baby Cakes (approx. 1,680 yards)
  • I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Size:

40×40

Notes:

  • To change the size of your blanket, you will make a CH of a multiple of 2 plus 5. This means you will multiply any number by 2 to get your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 5 more CHS to the end.
  • For Row 1, the 4 skipped CHS at the beginning will count as your first DC and 1 skipped CH.
  • The CH 2 at the beginning of each row will count as your first DC. The CH 2 for your border will not count as a DC.
  • The V-Stitches will sit right on top of one another. This is because you’re working in between each of the 2 DC stitches from the previous row.

Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket Pattern:

CH 125

Row 1: 2 DC in 5th CH from hook, *skip 1 CH, 2 DC in next CH. Repeat from * until you have 2 CHS left, skip 1 CH and make a DC in the last CH. CH 2 and turn.

Row 2: Working in between the 2 DC from the previous row (V-stitch), work 2 DC. Repeat this across your entire row. Work a DC in the top of your CH. CH 2 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 for a total of 83 rows. If you want to make your blanket longer, you will make more rows.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since.
