Rosy Cheeks Baby Blanket

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Rosy Cheeks Baby Blanket. This super soft, handmade baby blanket is made using beginner stitches with a cute frilly border. It is the perfect baby afghan for a newborn baby and would also be an excellent baby shower gift that would be treasured for years to come.

For the Rosy Cheeks Baby Blanket, I used Premier Anti-Pilling DK. However, you can use whatever #3 light-weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size J-10 (6.0mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Materials:

  • (4) skeins of Premier Anti-Pilling DK in Dusty Rose
  •  J-10 (6.0mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Size:

29 x 32

Notes:

  • To adjust the size of your blanket, you will need to make a chain in a multiple of 6+5. This means you will chain in multiples of 6 until your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 5 additional chains to the very end.
  • Chains never count as stitches.
  • Special stitch (V-Stitch): (SC, CH 2, SC) in the same stitch or space.
  • For the border, every time you make a chain 2, you’re creating a CH-2 space that you will work into in the following round.

BORDER

Round 1: CH 1, do not turn.

SIDES: SC evenly along the sides of your blanket. To help with placement, you will make a SC in the top and bottom of your CH-3 and a SC in the SC row end stitches. You will need an even number of stitches.

CORNERS: 3 SC in each corner

BOTTOM: SC in each stitch across

TOP: SC in next stitch (top of DC), 2 SC in next stitch (top of first SC), SC in next 4 stitches (DC stitches), *2 SC in next stitch, SC in next 4 stitches. Repeat from * across until you have one stitch remaining. Make your final corner and SL ST to beginning of the round. CH 2, do not turn.

Round 2: Skip first stitch and DC in each stitch around. When you get to the corners, you will make 3 DC into the center stitch. SL ST in the first DC. CH 1 and turn.

Rounds 3-4

Round 3: Skip first stitch, *make V-stitch in next stitch, skip next stitch. Repeat from * around except at corners. At each corner, you will be working into the 3 DC. As you approach the 3 DC corner stitches, your stitch before may be a V-stitch or a skipped stitch (doesn’t matter which). In each of the 3 DC corner stitches, make a V-stitch. After working in each corner, skip the next stitch and continue working pattern. SL ST to first SC of round. CH 1 and turn.

Amanda

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by! I’m Amanda, the crochet addict behind-the-scenes. I was always interested in crafting and being creative. One day I decided to learn how to crochet. I was instantly drawn to crochet and thought it was incredible how you could make something out of yarn and a hook. I guess you can say I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since.
