Hey everyone! Today I’m going to teach you how to make the sedge stitch. The sedge stitch is similar to the blanket stitch, which has to be one of my favorite stitches. You can check out how to make the blanket stitch here. The sedge stitch creates lots of texture, which would be great for making a variety of different projects. All you need to know is how to make the basics: single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet.
For this tutorial, I am using worsted weight yarn and an I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook. I’m specifically using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn and my favorite Clover Amour Hooks. SEDGE STITCH TUTORIAL
Materials:
Note: The sedge stitch is worked in multiples of 3. This means you will make a chain of 3+3+3+3 until your desired width before continuing on to row 1.
To begin, you will chain 30.
Row 1: Make a hdc and dc in the 3rd chain from your hook.
*Skip the next 2 chains and work a sc, hdc, and dc all in the same hook. You will repeat from * all the way down until the last 3 chains. You will skip 2 chains and make a sc into the last chain. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: Make a hdc and dc in the very first stitch (this will be the sc from the previous row. The chain 1 counts as your sc).
*Skip the next two stitches and work a sc, hdc, and dc all into the sc from the previous row. Next, you will repeat from * to the end of the row. You will make 1sc in the very last stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
You will continue row 2 over and over again until your desired length. I am currently working on a project using the sedge stitch, so be sure to be on the lookout for that.
