Suzette Baby Blanket - Amanda Crochets

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the Suzette Baby Blanket. This blanket is made using the suzette (thicket) stitch. It’s a one-row repeat, which makes it beginner-friendly and quick to make.

For the Suzette Baby Blanket, I chose a self-striping light-weight acrylic yarn. I wanted something that would really show off this stitch definition. I ended up using Caron Skinny Cakes in Buttermints. This blanket is just stunning and is an excellent choice for making a baby blanket!

However, you can use any light-weight #3 yarn you’d like. You can even use a worsted weight #4 or a bulky weight #5 yarn if you so choose. You will just change up the amount of chains you make for the beginning of your project. I also used a size H-8 crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Suzette Baby Blanket

Materials:

2 cakes of Caron Skinny Cakes in Buttermints
H-8 crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Size:

31 wide x 31 long

Notes:

To change the width of this blanket, you will chain an even number of chains.
Whenever you see parenthesis, you will follow the instructions inside the parenthesis into the stitch indicated.

Chain 110

Row 1: In the 2^nd chain from the hook, make a (SC, DC) into the same stitch. *Skip the next stitch and in the stitch after that make a (SC, DC). Repeat from * until you have 2 chains left. Skip a chain and in the final chain, make a SC. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: Make a (SC, DC) into the very first stitch. *Skip next stitch (DC from previous row) and work (SC, DC) into the next stitch (SC from previous row). Repeat from * across until you have 2 stitch remaining. Skip one stitch and make a SC in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the blanket measures about 30 inches or your desired length. Do not cut yarn. Continue below for the border.

Border:

Chain 2 and turn.

Round 1: Make a HHDC in first stitch and in each stitch across the top of your blanket. In the first corner, make 3 HHDC. You will continue this pattern by making 1 HHDC in each stitch around your blanket and 3 HHDC in each corner. Slip stitch to the beginning HHDC of your round. Chain 2, but do not turn.

Round 2: Make a HHDC in the first stitch and in each stitch around. Be sure to make 3 HHDC in each corner stitch. When you reach the beginning of your round, make a slip stitch to the beginning HHDC. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
