Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Tidal Waves Baby Blanket. I really wanted to make another shell blanket as I love shell stitch blankets. I was searching online and saw a similar design to the one I used and immediately knew I had to recreate my own blanket!

The Tidal Waves Baby Blanket is made using worsted weight yarn in three different colors. However, this blanket would be pretty in just about every color combination out there. I’m already thinking I may need to make this blanket again, but more in pinks and purples. The possibilities are truly endless!

For the Tidal Waves Baby Blanket, I used Caron Simply Soft in Country Blue, White, and Grey Heather. However, you can use whatever #4 worsted weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size H-8 (5mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Tidal Waves Baby Blanket

Materials:

• (2) skeins each of Caron Simply Soft in Country Blue, White, and Grey Heather (approx. 1,676 yards)
• H-8 (5mm) crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Size:

35×37

Notes:

• To change the size of your blanket, you will make a CH of a multiple of 4 plus 2. This means you will multiply any number by 4 to get your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 2 more CHS to the end.
• Each shell for the main part of your blanket will consist of 3 DC made into the same CH or stitch.
• Each shell for the border will consist of 4 HDC made into the same stitch.
• Depending on how many colors you use for this blanket, you may have lots of ends to weave in. I ended up weaving in my ends every few rows or so to help make it not so daunting of a task at the end.

Tidal Waves Baby Blanket Pattern:

With White, CH 126

Row 1: SC in 2^nd CH from hook, *skip 1 CH, shell in next CH, skip 1 CH and SC in next CH. Repeat from * across until you have 2 CH left. Skip 1 CH and SC in last CH. CH 3 and turn. (31 shells)

Row 2: DC in very first stitch, *SC in center of shell (2^nd DC of shell), shell in next SC. Repeat from * across. Make 2 DC in last SC. CH 1 and turn. (30 shells)

Row 3: SC in very first stitch, *shell in next SC, SC in center of DC shell. Repeat from * across. Make a SC in last stitch. CH 3 and turn. (31 shells)

Row 4: Repeat Row 2 and change to Country Blue.

Row 5: With Country Blue, continue with Row 3.

Row 6: Repeat Row 2 and change to Grey Heather.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 over and over again.

Please see color sequence below. Once you’ve reached the end of your blanket, you will fasten off and weave in all your ends before moving onto the border.

(TIP: I ended up weaving in my ends every few rows or so to help make it not so daunting of a task at the end.)

Color Sequence:

4 Rows White

2 Rows Country Blue

2 Rows Grey Heather

4 Rows White (repeat this 11 times)

You will end your blanket with 4 Rows of White for a total of 70 rows

Border:

Round 1: With Country Blue, join in any corner space. CH 2 (does not count as a stitch), HDC in each stitch around your blanket. Make 3 HDC in each corner, SL ST to beginning HDC. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Round 2: With White, join in any stitch. CH 2 (does not count as a stitch), 4 HDC in same stitch, *skip a stitch and in the stitch after that SC, skip a stitch and in the stitch after that 4 HDC. Repeat from * around entire blanket. SL ST to beginning HDC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
