Caron Baby Cakes Yarn Review

Hey everyone! In today’s yarn review I’m going to review Caron Baby Cakes. This is a spin off Caron Yarns came out with due to popular demand from the Original Caron Cakes. This yarn line can be found exclusively at Michaels Stores. However, it will only be around for a limited time.

Crocheters and knitters alike fell in love with Caron Cakes, but requested a non-wool version that would be more suited for babies. Caron Yarns ended up removing the wool and substituted it with nylon, making Caron Baby Cakes 82% Acrylic and 18% Nylon.

Caron Baby Cakes are not only made a little different, they also have beautiful hues of colors within each cake. These colors have been selected based on today’s trending colors as well as mother’s personal choices when it comes to baby projects.

This is a machine washable and dryable yarn, which makes it a perfect candidate for baby blankets, baby clothes, and more. Caron Baby Cakes is considered a #4 worsted weight yarn. For the crocheters out there, the recommended hook size is a size H-8, and for the knitters a recommended needle size US 8. Each cake is 3.5oz or 231 yards. Currently, this yarn line comes in 12 different colors. Below is a picture of the comparison between the Original Caron Cake versus the Caron Baby Cake.

When choosing a color, I had a hard time as they were all very pretty. In the end, I chose Dreamy Sky. The colors include a light blue, cream, taupe, and a gray-brown color.

When working with this yarn, I found it to be very soft and plush. The nylon in this yarn makes it very durable and stretchy. There is also a slight fuzziness or halo to this yarn. I enjoyed working with this yarn as it glided through my crochet hook with ease. I love how the colors worked up as they went together really well. As stated on the yarn label, you are able to machine wash and dry this yarn. If you thought this yarn was soft before washing, just wait until you feel the softness after washing! It’s like butter! This yarn also holds up extremely well after washing and drying it.

Overall, I enjoyed working with this yarn and love the color selections. Caron Yarns did a wonderful job when choosing the colors that you would find in modern day baby nurseries. I would recommend this yarn to others, but you have to act fast as you never know when this limited-time yarn will no longer be available. It might be better to purchase this yarn online, as I had trouble finding it at my local Michaels Store. I happened to be in another area where I only found a few color selections.

I hope you enjoyed my review of Caron Baby Cakes Yarn! Stay tuned until next week where I’ll share a pattern using this yarn. Have you tried this yarn before? Feel free to leave a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
