Caron Cake Pattern Roundup

Hey everyone! Today I’m doing a Caron Cake Pattern Roundup! Included are all of the patterns I’ve made since this yarn has come out. Most, if not all, of these Caron Cake patterns I came up with myself, but there are a few patterns I made from other crafters. I will link to their websites below. The Caron Cake Shop can be found exclusively at Michaels stores or on michaels.com. This yarn goes pretty quickly, and they’re always bringing out new colors for the season, so you have to act fast! Read on to find out which patterns and colors I used in my Caron Cake Pattern Roundup!

ORIGINAL CARON CAKES

This first pattern in the Caron Cake Pattern Roundup is a baby blanket that I used in the color Bumbleberry. I don’t think this color is available anymore as it was one of the first Caron Cake colors to come out. However, you can find this on [amazon text=Amazon&asin=B01LWDNMTW]. This is a combination of different purple tones. I used a simple v-stitch to create this blanket. Check out the free pattern here!

This next pattern is my ever-popular waffle stitch blanket. I used the Original Caron Cakes in Rainbow Sprinkles. This is one of my favorite patterns as I love the texture to this waffle stitch. I also did this blanket in Cherry Chip and Blueberry Shortcake. Check out the free pattern here!

Next up in the Caron Cake Pattern Roundup is my waffle stitch scarf. As you know, I’m a little obsessed with this stitch, so I knew I had to make something else. I came up with the waffle stitch scarf using the Original Caron Cake yarn in Blueberry Cheesecake. This is a quick pattern to work up. Because of the texture of this stitch, it will keep you nice and warm. This is a free pattern, which you can check out here.

CARON BABY CAKES

Next, in the Caron Cake Pattern Roundup we have a corner-to-corner baby blanket. I made this blanket using Caron Baby Cakes in the color Dreamy Sky. I really like the feel of this yarn as it’s super soft and comes in modern colors that you would find in a baby nursery. The Caron Baby Cakes line should be coming back very quickly, so be sure to be on the lookout for it! This is a free pattern, which you can check out here.

CARON COTTON CAKES

Caron Cotton Cakes is another favorite that is coming back very soon. I bought Caron Cotton Cakes in Beach Glass as I instantly fell in love with the colors. They were very pretty and calming. This yarn isn’t intended for use in the kitchen, but is considered more of a fashion yarn. I decided to make a tote bag with this yarn courtesy of Daisy Cottage Designs. You can find the free pattern on her blog here. This pattern is well-written and the end result is stunning. I highly recommend checking this pattern out.

CARON TEA CAKES (discontinued)

Another favorite pattern is my 3 Button Cowl. I couldn’t believe the overwhelming number of people who gravitated towards this pattern! I originally made this out of Caron Tea Cake yarn in the color Winterberry. This is one of my favorite yarns in the Caron Cake Shop line. However, they have sadly discontinued this yarn. This is a bit chunkier than the Original Caron Cakes, which makes it perfect for this cowl. Check out the free pattern here.

CARON CHUNKY CAKES

Caron Chunky Cakes came out during the winter, and everyone seemed to go crazy over them! They are a chunky version that contains no wool, which is great if you’re allergic to it. These come in some pretty awesome colors with Mystic Chip being one of my favorites. This yarn is as soft as a cloud and very squishy. I made a ribbed baby blanket out of this yarn as well as some 3 button cowls. You can check out the ribbed blanket here.

CARON BIG CAKES

This next pattern is made using Caron Big Cakes. Like some of the other brands in this line, it contains no wool. This is a bigger version of the Original Caron Cakes. This line originally came out in the fall, but they recently came out with some new spring colors. Of course I had to pick them up because they’re just so beautiful! I’m not sure what I want to do with these new colors yet, but I know I’ll find something!

With Caron Big Cakes I made, you guessed it, another baby blanket. This is a chevron baby blanket that has some ridges to it due to the fact that you’re working in the back loops only. I really enjoyed how this blanket turned out. Because of the amount of yarn in this cake, you can make most baby blankets using only 2-3 skeins. This blanket took 2 ½ skeins to complete. You can check out the free pattern here.

Another blanket I made using Caron Big Cakes is the squared waffle stitch blanket (I told you I was obsessed). This is a free pattern by Buttonnose Crochet, which you can check out here. I had no idea this pattern existed until recently when I saw more and more people making this blanket. I made my blanket using 2 skeins in the color Shadowberry.

CARON CUPCAKES

Caron Cupcakes is the final yarn in this line I have tried out. This is a much smaller version that is again 100% acrylic. This comes with a pom on top, which you can use if you’re making a hat. However, you don’t have to use this if you don’t want to. I knew I wanted to make a hat with this yarn, but wasn’t sure which pattern I wanted to use. I discovered the Granny Square Hat by Clare of Bobwilson123. You can check out her free pattern here. When it came to the size of the hat, I wanted to make a child hat to be sure I had enough yarn. The hat was fairly easy to make. You can read all about it here. I ended up having enough yarn to make three different hats!

FINAL THOUGHTS ON MY CARON CAKE PATTERN ROUNDUP

Overall, I really enjoy the Caron Cake Shop line and would recommend trying these different yarns out. However, there are some yarns in this collection that I like more than others. This is my own opinion. I hope you enjoyed my Caron Cake Pattern Roundup. Have you used any of the Caron Cake yarns before? Which one is your favorite? What have you made with them?
