Crochet Velvet Ribbed Scarf

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the Crochet Velvet Ribbed Scarf. This scarf is made using alternating front post and back post double crochets to make this a nice plush and warm scarf.

For the Crochet Velvet Ribbed Scarf, I chose a self-striping bulky weight velvet yarn. I wanted something that would be super warm and cozy for the colder winter months. This velvet yarn had nice thick chunks of color blocks to it, which was nice to not have to change skeins.

However, you can forgo using velvet yarn and instead use another bulky weight yarn instead. I also used a size K-10.5mm crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors, a tapestry needle, and measuring tape (optional). Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Materials:

Size:

5 inches wide x 65 inches long

Notes:

  • To change the width of this scarf, you will chain an even number of chains.
  • The chain 2 will count as your first stitch.
  • You will alternate Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and back post double crochet (BPDC) stitches to achieve this ribbed effect.

Chain 20

Row 1: In the 4th CH from hook, make a DC, DC in each CH across. CH 2 and turn.

Row 2: Around the next stitch, work a FPDC. Make a BPDC around the next stitch. Alternate between FPDC and BPDC until you get to the end. Work a regular DC underneath the turning CH. CH 2 and turn.

Row 3: Around the first stitch (FPDC), make a FPDC. You will always make a FPDC around the FPDC and a BPDC around the BPDC. This will create the ribbed effect. Continue until the end of your row. Make a regular DC underneath the turning chain. CH 2 and turn.

Repeat Row 3 until you reach 65 inches long or your desired length. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
