Granny Square Hat Pattern Review

Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing my review on the granny square hat pattern. This granny square hat pattern is by no means new, but it’s something I haven’t tried before now. This is a free pattern offered by Clare or Bobwilson123. You can check out the written pattern here or check out the video tutorial here.

Have you tried this granny square hat pattern before? Read on to see what I thought of this pattern!

For this granny square hat, I decided to go with a child sized hat. I had some Caron Cupcake yarn in my stash that I was looking to use up, and I thought now would be the perfect time. I used less than one skein of Caron Cupcake in Nougat. However, you may need a full skein if you decide to make an adult sized hat.

Working this hat up was fairly easy. I was able to follow the written pattern, but I also referred to the video tutorial as well. I actually had a little bit of trouble figuring out how to go from a square granny to a more rounded shape, which is where the video helped. Clare provides great detail in how to obtain the correct size needed for each hat. She even measured everything out to take the guess work out of it. However, I did notice that my gauge was a little bigger than hers, even though I used the same hook, so keep this in mind when you’re making this pattern.

Overall, I enjoyed this granny square hat and would use this pattern again. The pattern was well-written and the video tutorial that goes along with it explained everything properly. I was even able to have some leftover yarn, which I made into an adult hat and a newborn hat. This granny square hat pattern is versatile in that you can make it in many different sizes for the whole family.

I hope you enjoyed today’s pattern review on the granny square hat. This is a beginner friendly pattern that works up quickly. You can even get multiple hats out of one skein depending on what yarn you use and what size hat you’re making. Make one for yourself or for your loved ones.
