Hey everyone! Today’s book review is on Hooked A Crocheter’s Stash of Wit and Wisdom by Kari Cornell. I initially discovered this book at a used book store. I didn’t pick it up then, thinking that when I went back it would still be there. Unfortunately, it was not there. However, I remembered part of the title and was able to find a used copy on Amazon (gotta love Amazon!).

Hooked A Crocheter’s Stash of Wit and Wisdom is based on short essays and stories about how some people learned how to crochet from their grandmothers, how some sought comfort during tough times, and others found crochet to be a way of artist expression. Each contributor gives a short explanation of what the world of crochet means to them, what memories crochet has added to their lives, and what simple moments of happiness crochet has brought them.

I enjoyed reading this book because learning what crochet means to other people fascinates me. I’ve been watching a lot of crochet interviews on YouTube lately, which has me interested in what others have to say. I find that each person has a different start in how they came about crochet and what the craft means to them.  I love hearing people’s stories as some are relatable to me and others are totally different.  The great thing is no matter what path we take, we can still find common ground.

Hooked A Crocheter’s Stash of Wit and Wisdom reminds readers that with every chain a new story unfolds. While there aren’t any patterns in this book, I don’t think that took away from the stories of each person mentioned in this book. It’s a quick read, but I have a deeper appreciation of the craft. I think it’s a great tribute to an age-old art.

There is always a rhyme and a reason behind everything.  It does not just happen out of the blue.  It has taken hard work, commitment, and a true passion to make it happen.  The passion is what I respond to the most and what really inspires me.  I found out what makes a person tick and why they crochet.  Again, each individual is different and being different is not a bad thing.  In fact, it is a good thing!  If everyone were the same, the world would be an awful boring place.

It’s rare to find a book about crochet that isn’t all about patterns and techniques. As a crocheter for over 10 years, this book is exactly what I was looking for and then some. Again, I enjoyed reading about how others found happiness in crochet and that everyone has a different story to tell. I liked how crochet brings people together or gives them a memory of when they learned how to crochet. If you’re interested in reading about other people’s crochet stories, I recommend picking it up and giving it a read. Again, you can find a used copy of this book on Amazon.
