Shell Stitch Blanket Pattern

Today I’ll be sharing my shell stitch blanket pattern with you. I have a tutorial on how to make the shell stitch, which you can check out here. This shell stitch blanket is made using Big Twist Chunky yarn, which you can find exclusively at Joann Fabrics stores and online. You can check out my review of this yarn here. This shell stitch blanket measures 40×40. You can also customize this blanket to be wider or longer depending on your preference. However, you will need to adjust the amount of yarn you purchase if you decide to make this blanket in a wider or longer size.

For today’s tutorial, you will need bulky weight yarn (I’m using Big Twist Chunky) and a size K-10.5mm crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). Feel free to use a different bulky weight yarn in a solid or variegated color if you’d like. You can also change colors to achieve the look you’re going for. To learn how to change colors, please visit this tutorial. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!

SHELL STITCH BLANKET PATTERN

MATERIALS:

FINISHED SIZE:

40×40

PATTERN:

With Slate, chain 133 (or any multiple of 6+1)

Row 1: 2 dcs in the 4th chain from your hook. Skip 2 chains and make 1 sc in next stitch.*Skip 2 chains and make 4 dcs in next stitch. Next, skip 2 chains and make 1 sc in next chain. Repeat from * to end of row. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 2: 2 dcs in 1st sc. Skip 2 stitches. *Make 1 sc in between the 2nd and 3rd dc of next group. Skip 2 stitches, 4 dcs in next sc. Next, skip next 2 stitches. Repeat from * to the end of the row, making 1 sc in the space between the last dc and the chain 3. Turn and Chain 3.

Repeat row 2 over and over until your blanket measures 40×40. I switched colors every third row. This means I made two rows of Slate and two rows of Seabreeze. However, feel free to change up the colors any way you’d like! You can even make a solid color shell stitch blanket.

I hope you enjoyed today’s pattern on my shell stitch blanket! Feel free to make this super soft chunky blanket in a baby blanket size or feel free to make it bigger. The wavy texture of this blanket makes it a fun design while also keeping you nice and warm. If you have any questions about today’s shell stitch blanket pattern, please leave a comment below.
