Waffle Stitch (Crochet 101)

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest Crochet 101 Tutorial, the Waffle Stitch. The Waffle Stitch is a fun, textured two row repeat pattern that would be great for blankets, scarves, and even dishcloths! You can use a solid color or change up the colors however you’d like.

The yarn I used was Caron Cake yarn. Experiment with different yarns to see which you prefer. I also used a size I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Waffle Stitch

Materials:

  • Any yarn you desire
  • Coordinating hook size recommend on the yarn label

Notes:

  • The Waffle Stitch is worked in a multiple of 3+2. That means you will make a chain in a multiple of 3 (3,6,9,etc) until your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 2 chains to the very end.
  • To get a straight edge, be sure to end on a row 2 row.

CH 35 (or any multiple of 3+2)

ROW 1: Make a DC into the 3rd CH from your hook and in each CH across. CH 1 and turn.

ROW 2: Work a DC into the very first stitch. *In the next stitch, work a FPDC, work 1 DC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * across until 1 stitch remains. Work a FPDC in the last stitch and 1 DC into the top of the turning CH. CH 1 and turn.

ROW 3: Work a DC into the very first stitch. *Work a DC in the next stitch and a FPDC in the next two stitches. Repeat from * to last two stitches. Next, work 1 DC into each of the remaining 2 stitches. CH 1 and turn.

Repeat ROWS 2 and 3 until your desired length. Be sure to end on a ROW 2 for a neat edge.
