Hey everyone! In today’s Crochet 101 lesson, I’m going to teach you how to make the blossom stitch. This is another beautiful stitch that combines the “V” stitches and the chain stitches. You will need to know how to make chains, single crochets, and double crochets in order to complete the blossom stitch. The pattern is simple to work up and can be shaped into making hats, scarves, blankets, and more.
For today’s tutorial, you will need worsted weight yarn (I’m using Red Heart Super Saver) and a size I-9 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). The blossom stitch looks great in a solid color, but feel free to change colors for a more interesting look. Click here to learn how to change colors. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!
To begin, you will need a multiple of 4 stitches plus 1. This means you’ll do 4+4+4+4 until you get your desired length and add 1 more stitch to the very end of your row. For the purposes of this tutorial, I’m making 21 chains.
ROW 1: (1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet) in 3rd chain from hook. *Skip 1 chain and make a single crochet into the next chain. Skip a chain and make (1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet) into the next chain. Repeat from * to last 2 chains. Skip 1 chain and make a single crochet into the final chain. Chain 4 and turn.
ROW 2: *Make 1 single crochet in the chain-1space from the previous row. Chain 1 and make 1 double crochet in the next single crochet. Chain 1, skip 1 double crochet. Repeat from * to last chain-1 space. Make 1 single crochet in chain-1 space and 1 double crochet in last double crochet stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
ROW 3: *Make (1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet) in next single crochet. Skip next stitch and make 1 single crochet into the next double crochet stitch. Repeat from * to the end, making a single crochet in the 3rd chain. Chain 4 and turn.
That’s how to make the blossom stitch! Repeat rows 2 and 3 over and over again to practice. The blossom stitch might require some practice at first, but the more you practice, the easier it will become. Use this stitch to create some fun texture in your next crochet project.
