Hey everyone! In today’s Crochet 101 lesson, I’m going to teach you how to make the picot stitch. This is another stitch that can be used to finish off your crochet project. The picot stitch is used making a slip stitch and chain stitch resulting in a little knobby decorative edge.
For today’s tutorial, you will need worsted weight yarn (I’m using Red Heart Super Saver) and a size I-9 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). I recommend using a solid color in order to see the stitch definition more clearly. However, feel free to use a variegated color, too. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!
Before beginning, you will need a swatch or a project to practice the picot stitch on. To make a swatch, chain 20, sc in 2nd stitch from hook and in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn. Continue making your sc rows until you have a square to work with.
Using the same color, you will chain up 1. If you are using a different color, you will join the new color and chain 1.
Next, sc in the first two stitches.
Chain 3 and insert your hook into the back bar of the first chain made. Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. This completes your first picot stitch.
To continue, make 1 sc in the next 2 stitches.

That’s how to make the picot stitch! Repeat those two instructions over and over again to practice. Your decorative picot edge will start to take shape and add some fun to your crochet project. Feel free to use this to decorate the edge of blankets, hats, scarves, and more!
