Did you notice the new Caron Cake Shop displays at Michaels? Caron has come out with some NEW variations to their oh-so-popular Caron Cakes! It’s true! The newest line includes Caron Big Cakes, Caron Cupcakes, Caron Tea Cakes, and Caron Sprinkle Cakes. They’ve also added some new fall colors to their original Caron Cake line. I can’t crochet fast enough!

I’m a BIG fan of this yarn, and I was happy to see my local Michaels had the display fully stocked, especially since how quickly this yarn goes. You can also purchase this yarn on michaels.com. So what exactly did I pick up?

CARON BIG CAKES

First up we have Caron Big Cakes. This yarn is a new take on the original Caron Cakes, but bigger! Caron Big Cakes are 100% acrylic and contain no wool whereas the regular Caron Cakes contain 20% wool. If you have an allergy to wool (or if you prefer not to work with wool) you have got to give this new cake a try! While they are $9.99 per cake, you can use a coupon to purchase them. Just remember that these Big Cakes are almost twice the size of the regular Caron Cakes.

They are considered a #4 worsted weight yarn and comes in a 10.5oz cake or 603 yards. Wow! For the crocheters out there, the recommended hook size is a H-8 (5mm) and for the knitters a US 8 (5mm).

Caron Big Cakes come in 16 different colors, so you have many options to choose from. You can choose from bright colors to the more neutral colors. I chose 3 cakes of Nightberry, which contains a light and dark gray, light blue, and navy.

CARON CUPCAKES

These Caron Cupcakes are just the cutest little things! Each Cupcake comes with its own adorable pom pom. Pom poms seems to be all the rage lately, so I thought it was a fun twist that this was already included. Of course, you can always choose not to use the pom pom if that’s not your thing. Caron Cupcakes are $4.99 each.

Caron Cupcakes are considered a #3 lightweight 100% acrylic yarn and comes in a 3oz cake or 244 yards. For the crocheters out there, the recommended hook size is a G-6 (4mm) and for the knitters a US 6 (4mm).

Caron Cupcakes come in 12 different colors. The colors seem to appeal to younger kids, but that’s not to say an adult can’t be seen wearing these colors as well! One cake of this yarn makes a colorful hat. I chose 1 cake in Candy Buttons and 1 cake in Nougat.

CARON TEA CAKES (sadly discontinued)

Caron Tea Cakes are the bulky version of the original Caron Cakes. Each Tea Cake is 8.5oz or 204 yards. This is a wool-blend yarn, which means its 80% acrylic and 20% wool. Caron Tea Cakes are infused with a lovely heather effect and come in 12 different colors. I absolutely LOVE the colors in the Tea Cake line! Each Tea Cake is $9.99, but again use those coupons!

For the crocheters out there, the recommended hook size is a L-11 (8mm) and for the knitters a US 11 (8mm). Because of the bulkiness of this yarn, projects work up quick! Use this yarn to make a cozy blanket or sweater for the upcoming chilly weather. The names of this line is, you guessed it, named after different teas. I chose 2 cakes of Winterberry, which are pretty shades of purples and pinks.

ORIGINAL CARON CAKES

As I mentioned above, the original Caron Cakes have come out with some new colors for the fall. You can read my full review of the original Caron Cakes here. If interested, I have two blanket patterns using Caron Cakes, which you can find here and here. For the new colors, however, I picked up 4 cakes of Blueberry Shortcake. This is a combination of turquoise, lavender, bright blue, and light blue.

(NOTE: I did not purchase Caron Sprinkle Cakes, so I cannot comment on them. However, they look almost like the Tea Cakes in bulkiness, but have extra “speckles” of yarn mixed it.)

Overall, I enjoyed this new Caron Cake Shop collection with the Caron Tea Cakes being my favorite. I think this new collection will appeal to many other Caron Cake lovers out there as well as there are so many different color options to choose from. Of course, you can always use a coupon if you don’t want to pay full price for these items.
