Lion Brand Coverlet Blanket Pattern

Last week I gave my review on the Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn. This week, I’m going to be reviewing a pattern that I made using this yarn. Because of the amount of yardage this yarn came in, I knew I wanted to make a baby blanket with it, specifically the Lion Brand Coverlet Blanket Pattern. One of the ladies in my crochet group was working on this blanket pattern, and I fell in love with the pattern.

The Lion Brand Coverlet Blanket Pattern is a free pattern. The pattern called for a different type of yarn than what I was using, but to me it didn’t matter as I was just practicing. This pattern uses front post double crochet and shell stitches to complete this blanket. I always enjoy a nice shell pattern, so I knew I had to give this a try.

The first thing I noticed with this pattern was that the starting chain wasn’t correct. It says to chain 111, but no matter how many times I worked the first row, I always had extra chains. I even counted and went super slow to make sure I didn’t mess up. Instead, I ended up making a chain of 109 stitches instead and it worked much better.

I used one giant skein of Lion Brand Pound of Love in the color Creamsicle and a size I-9 Clover Amour crochet hook. The finished blanket size ended up being 27×36. Remember, I modified this blanket using only one skein of this yarn. The actual finished blanket size is 34×40. This was a fun pattern to work with and I would recommend it to others. However, I wish I would have used a bigger hook when making this blanket as it would have more drape to it. Personally for me, I didn’t enjoy working with this yarn as much as I thought I would as I found it to be too fuzzy and a little scratchy at times. After putting this blanket in the washing machine, it did come out a little softer, but it still had a lot of fuzziness to it. However, I plan on making this Coverlet Blanket Pattern again in the future, but use a different yarn instead.

I hope you enjoyed this quick review of the Lion Brand Coverlet Blanket Pattern using [amazon text=Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn&asin=B0091UDHL4]. Have you made this pattern before? Did you like it? Leave me a comment below and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
