Naturally Southern Scarf Pattern Review

Hey everyone! Today I’m doing a pattern review on the Naturally Southern Scarf by Kathy of Elk Studio. I discovered this pattern while perusing through Pinterest and I instantly fell in love with the simple design and the color of the yarn. I knew I HAD to make this scarf!

While looking through my yarn stash, I found a yarn that I bought a while ago, but didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with it. The original pattern calls for 319 yards of a sport weight yarn. Even though this yarn wasn’t sport weight, it was light enough that I felt like it could work.

The yarn I chose was Lion Brand Cupcake in the color Tutu Much. It’s a beautiful yarn in shades of pink, gray, and purple. You can see my full review of Lion Bran Cupcake yarn here.

The pattern also calls for a size G-6 crochet hook. As always, I’m using my trusty Clover Amour hook. I really enjoy these hooks as they’re so comfortable and I’m able to crochet for hours without my hands cramping up. You can purchase these hooks on Amazon. NATURALLY SOUTHERN SCARF PATTERN REVIEW

As I mentioned, this scarf caught my eye instantly when looking through Pinterest. I thought it would be the perfect scarf to make that’s not too bulky and that I can wear throughout the year. I wanted to try an asymmetrical scarf as I’ve never made one before. When searching, I stumbled upon this one and thought it would be a great beginner project.

The scarf starts at the pointed tip and increases with each row. You will alternate between a double crochet row and a lacy row increasing at one end of the scarf. The Naturally Southern Scarf actually works up pretty quickly as I was able to complete this in just one day.

The pattern is well written and I was able to follow it easily. Kathy also mentions you can alternate the pattern if necessary when you run out of yarn. However, I feel like you can make this scarf as big as you would like and it still turn out beautifully.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Overall, I really enjoyed making the Naturally Southern Scarf pattern. It was such a lovely beginner project to work on while watching TV. Once you understand how the scarf is constructed, you can work this up fairly quickly. You can also wear this scarf year-round, as it’s lightweight enough for the warmer spring and summer months. I’m sure this scarf would look amazing in a variety of colors as well. I can definitely see myself making this scarf again.
