Petals Baby Blanket

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Petals Baby Blanket. I recently picked up a bunch of new Caron Cake Yarns, and with all the pretty colors available, I knew I wanted to make a baby blanket pattern right away. The hard part was choosing which color to work with first!

The Petals Baby Blanket is made using worsted weight yarn in self-striping colors. However, this blanket would be pretty in just about every color combination out there. The possibilities are truly endless!

If you end up making this blanket, please share your finished product by tagging me on Instagram using the hashtag #amandacrochets. I’d love to see what other colors you come up with for inspiration!

For the Petals Baby Blanket, I used Caron Baby Cakes in the color Petals (pinks and purples). However, you can use whatever worsted weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size H-8 (5mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Petals Baby Blanket

Materials:

Size:

33×31

Notes:

  • To change the size of your blanket, you will make a CH of a multiple of 2 plus 3. This means you will multiply any number by 2 to get your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 3 more CHS to the end.
  • CH 1 and CH 3 count as stitches for the main part of your blanket.
  • Even rows are wrong side rows, odd rows are right side rows. This means the textured side will always be on the same side of the blanket.
  • You will end with an odd row so your blanket will start and end the same way.
  • For your blanket, make sure the horizontal loop is showing in front of your work. If this loop isn’t showing, you’ve worked into the wrong loop.

Special Stitch:

  • Picot stitch-SC in first two stitches, CH 3, SL ST in top of front loop of SC stitch, *SC in next two stitches, CH 3, SL ST in top of front loop. Repeat from * to complete the border.

Petals Baby Blanket Pattern:

CH 103

Row 1: DC in 4th CH from hook and in each CH across. CH 1 and turn.

Row 2: Skip 1st stitch, *DC in next stitch, SL ST in next. Repeat from * across ending with a SL ST in the top of the skipped CH 3. CH 3 and turn.

Row 3: Skip 1st stitch, DC across entire row. CH 1 and turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for a total of 85 rows. You should end with the right side (textured side) facing you. Row 85 should be similar to Row 3.

Border:

Round 1: CH 1. Make a SC in each stitch around the blanket with 3 SC in each corner space. SL ST to beginning SC. CH 1, do not turn.

Round 2: SC in first two stitches, CH 3, insert your hook into the top loop of your SC stitch and SL ST together. This completes your picot stitch. *SC in next two stitches, picot stitch. Repeat around entire blanket. SL ST to beginning and fasten off. Weave in ends.
